TIRANA, May 31 / ATA /- The Albanian General Directorate of Customs is holding several information meetings with business representatives to acquaint them with the facilities and benefits by obtaining the status of Authorized Economic Operators (AEO).
The AEO programme was introduced by an amendment to the Community Customs Code in April 2005 (European Parliament and Council Regulation No 648/2005). The aim of the AEO programme is to maintain a proper balance between heightened security requirements and the facilitation of legitimate trade. The AEO concept is based on the internationally recognised SAFE Framework of Standards adopted by the World Customs Organisation (WCO).
During the meeting, the Albanian Deputy Director of Customs, Mirela Meko, stated that the new legal provisions for AEO aimed at facilitating customs regulations and procedures for economic operators, while lowering costs and promoting legal certainty.
The mutual recognition of the national AEO programs in all CEFTA countries (Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova) was made possible by completing the legal basis.
