“Don Quixote,” Albanian play in International Festival of Puppet Theatre

TIRANA, May 30 /ATA/ – The show “Don Quixote” directed by Klajd Ymeri is the play that represented Albania in International Puppet Theatre Festival. In the framework of the festival, the puppet play was put on the stage of Metropol Theater on Tuesday evening.

The famous work by Servantes is put on the stage for the first time through puppets, a new approach to the theatre introduced by director Klajd Ymeri.

“Don Quixote” has not been conceptualized as a traditional puppet theater, but most of the show the characters communicate as if they were real actors. Confessions are interwoven into one single axis in the relationship between the two main characters, Don Quixote and Sancho, interwoven with all the other characters in the five acts of this comedy.

In attendance of the first edition, which started on May 27 through to June 1, are five countries, such as China, Spain, Turkey, Romania and Albania, which are represented by miscellaneous universally acclaimed plazs. The festival takes places in the venues of Metropol Theater, meanwhile in the afternoon hours, the plays are performed at Skanderbeg Square.

The festival lasts five nights with each of them dedicated to one state. The festival will be capped by an ethnographic exhibition at the National Museum featuring handiworks from Albanian-speaking territories.
