TIRANA, May 26 /ATA/- The region of Berat has attracted two important investments for Albania, which are the Royal Dutch Shell, an international leading hydrocarbon company and Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enis Aliko, stated on Saturday that if the hydrocarbon explorations by multinational company SHELL are successful, its investment in our country will amount to USD 2.5 bn.
“SHELL has signed with Albanian govt. a deal on hydrocarbon exploration in blocks 2 and 3, which are located in the region of Berat, meanwhile in February this year it signed a deal on block 4 to the south of Shpirag,” he said.
According to him, this area has very good oil bearing potentials and the oil will be of higher quality compared to the oil extracted in existing drilling sites.
SHELL has so far invested about $ 400 million and will invest another $ 100 million to provide validation of the drilling site. If it is validated, SHELL will invest another $ 2 billion,” he said.
If this happens, deputy minister says, Albania will reap numerous financial benefits, such as proceeds from the sale of oil, attraction of similar investments and increase of employment in this region.
SHELL is the company operating in the field of oil exploration, the second biggest in the world. It has activities in 70 countries around the world, including Albania. This company employs about 86,000 employees and produces about 3.7 million barrels of oil per day.
Besides investment in the oil project, SHELL has invested in social projects for local community. These investments include capacity building as well as direct social investments in community.
