‘100 villages’ project, tourism-based development potential

TIRANA, May 24 /ATA/-By I. Vata/ – Albania has sufficient potential for building tourism-based development projects, Prime Minister Edi Rama told a tourism promotion event on Thursday as he unveiled the 100 agribusiness villages project.

The government has picked 100 villages across the country that will have their infrastructure upgraded in a bid to make them agribusiness oriented by promoting local agriculture products.

The government head noted that the tourism-based development project will provide a tremendous opportunity to generate income for local communities and raise wellbeing of local residents.

“The tourism-based project will allow residents of these villages – who in most of the cases, due to their geographical location and limited natural resources, are unable to engage in intensive agriculture development and raise their welfare through increased production – to make their houses and small farms available to visitors and take advantage of the wonderful nature and stunning landscape together with other cultural heritage attractions and thus generate much more income,” he said.

PM Rama expressed gratitude to European partners for supporting the ‘100 villages’ project.

“Together with the Austrian and Swiss ambassadors, thanks to joint work and these countries’ cooperation agencies, we have entered a process of joint efforts to promote the ‘100 villages’ project and our idea is to invite many others to channel the support funds of all countries into a program like this,” he said.
