TIRANA, May 22 /ATA/ – “Konrad Adenauer Foundation ” and “House of Europe “ in Tirana, in partnership with Institute for Democracy, Media and Culture (IDMC) launched Tuesday a series of activities “TiranaReads 2018.”
The opening event, which took place at EU hall in the Palace of Congresses, featured the combination passion for reading and reflection on the past.
The first event was about this subject because the beginning of the week marked the 45th anniversary of Spac uprising and book is the only means to stir historic remembrance.
Director of IDMC Jonila Godole and representative of EU Delegation , Monika Bylaite, invited the guests Fatbardha Saraçi, Arlinda Çausholli, Gëzim Peshkëpia and Fatos Lubonja to sit on the panel.
Godole echoed the role of literature in conveying the first –hand accounts and also thanked the youths for their interest.
In her opening remarks Bylaite said: “There is really nothing that can prepare a nation for the impossible atrocities faced during communism. We should do all we can to make sure that this history never repeats itself. But to do that, we need to give the past its due respect.”
Fatbardha Saraçi, a tireless collector of evidence about the persecution and jails in the communist regime, said in modesty that the credit for her book “Pain” goes to the women who provided firsthand accounts. I followed this mission because I also know what it feels like to be prosecuted and on the other hand I was alongside the women who endured more than I did.
Fatos Lubonja spoke about his book “Second sentence” which, according to him, is based on a living story. The history is about Xhelal Koprencka, Fadil Kokomani and Vangjel Lezho, who wrote a letter to dictator and were subsequently executed for merely saying the truth.
“TiranaReads 2018” will continue with “Nights of Austrian literature,” which will be held on May 23 through to 25.
