TIRANA, May 21/ATA/-Someone must be held accountable of the intercepted phone call claimed by the Democratic Party, said on Monday Prime Minister Edi Rama during an interview on television about this matter.
According to PM Rama success has many fathers, failure is an orphan. But, investigation will confirm who is right and who is wrong and someone must be held accountable.
The prime minister said that the interior minister was turned into a target because of the Police results in fight against drugs.
Further on, he accused the opposition of pointing to the minister in an effort to undermine Albania’s opening of the EU accession negotiations while it would be quite difficult explanation of such situations to foreign lawmakers who are against the EU enlargement.
“In the capacity of prime minister, I cannot take a stand based on claims, but only on facts. I can evaluate the work and the results. When I named Fatmir Xhafaj for the post of interior minister I was aware of the fact and so were the opposition and the Albanians keen on news. Thus, it’s not a secret or a discovery. I have demanded an international agency expertise in the intercepted phone call so that to find out the truth. If there is real evidence that confirms the brother of the minister is engaged in drug dealing, from the moral viewpoint it could not be imagined that the minister maintained his post while his brother is involved”, said PM Rama.
Speaking about the opposition charges, the prime minister said that he is waiting with patience the Prosecution Office to conclude its investigation although it’s difficult to be patient seeing that the truth is being transformed so that to poison the people. “I expect the truth will emerge”, said the prime minister.
But, the prime minister warned that if scientific evidence confirms that the intercepted phone call is manipulated, then it’s a question of criminal activity.
PM Rama said that the attack against Xhafaj implies the opposition is insisting in failure of Albania EU accession negotiations.
It is also an evidence of opposition lacking vision and its misleading role that makes a mountain out of a molehill so that to take advantage in its favour, said the prime minister.
Everyone older than 18 stands on its own, said PM Rama, and is not depended on the brother or someone else. And so there are people abroad who maintain the stance that the minister cannot be involved even by a convicted brother.
The prime minister also said that “Xhafaj” story coming to an end within a reasonable time is rather important for the process the country is engaged.
The prime minister said that the opposition’s reaction producing “Xhafaj” story seems to be influenced by investigation of the case of 613 kg of cocaine seized in Durrës when people of the opposition seem to be involved./p.s./
