TIRANA, May 8/ATA/-The European Commission recommended the unconditional opening of Albania’s EU accession negotiations following a positive assessment of the reforms that our country has implemented.
Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati said on Tuesday to the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Parliament that the opening of the negotiations depends on the EU member countries that will examine the EC progress report and the enlargement strategy.
“I don’t believe it will be an easy process while we have a mountain to climb”, said FM Bushati.
The foreign minister accepted that the process has been lengthy since 2009 when Albania applied to join the EU and 9 years on it received the first recommendation to open the negotiations.
FM Bushati emphasized that for the first time since 2000-2001 on February 6 the European Commission simultaneously issued the progress report and enlargement strategy.
The lawmakers of the Democratic Party in opposition were absent in the meeting, but the former ministers of the Socialist Movement for Integration Klajda Gjosha and Edmond Panariti attended./a.g/p.s./
