TIRANA, May 3/ATA/-Public accountability of the government is indispensability because we don’t have an opposition that offers alternatives or has a programme that protects the interests of the citizens, said Prime Minister Edi Rama on Thursday to the Parliament.
According to him, in a country of functioning democracy we must have a governance majority and an opposition that demands explanations in the Parliament.
“But, instead of the opposition asking explanations, it casts mud on us in an expression of despair”, said PM Rama.
He gave assurances that the campaign of accountability will be annual because we have taken over to govern with the people and for the people, as he put it.
Our concern, said the prime minister, is how to do more under the circumstances when we don’t have an opposition of vision, one with a programme or ideas and one that gets prepared of dealing with things that hurt and affect the interest of the common people.
In regard to the international reports on Albania, the prime minister said that, “It has not been distant the time when the EU reports carried on their pages concrete names, like the name of the forfeited chairman of this opposition who is mentioned in the progress report not like an hero, but as an obstacle to progress”, said PM Rama.
According to him, now we have a progress report of the European Commission that supports Albania’s opening of unconditional EU accession negotiations.
“We achieved this not only through fighting for progress, but even overcoming everyday the mountains of mud that this opposition exports to the European offices”, said PM Rama.
In regard to the European Commission’s Report, PM Rama said, “We received an incontestable certificate based on objective evaluation”. And that certificate promotes Albania into another position different from what the opposition claims.
“In six months time, we have received a positive recommendation and have put the vetting into operation. These are two landmark moments of the country’s future”, said the prime minister./a.g/p.s./
