TIRANA, April 26 /ATA/- By Gjergji Mima/ “The visit to Germany was a success for the goals fulfilled and I am convinced that at the end of the visit all the stakeholders have a broader understanding of Albania’s position to date and the legitimacy of our demand for the EC report to be supported by the German govt. and parliament.
Upon his arrival in Tirana after the official visit to Germany, PM Edi Rama declared that the prerequisites Mrs. Merkel spoke about were the pre-conditions that constitute the so far process up to the point when progress report was issued, and there aren’t any others, PM Rama said.
When saying the visit was a success for what was achieved, it was not our goal to receive the public GO-AHEAD from Chancellor during this visit, because only those unaware of what this process is all about could expect such a thing. To us who are very clear how the process unfolds, the visit was intended to explain all the aspects and provide the necessary information for the purpose of opinion preparation which as Chancellor said that Germany as any member country will take its time to come up with the final decision.
PM spoke about a busy schedule during his visit to Germany as the goal was to get our message across to multiple directions. To that end, apart from Chancellor Merkel, we met with President of Bundestag, members of Committee for European Affairs as well as PMs from different fractions of Bundestag.
“The meeting with Chancellor Merkal which was followed by a joint news conference thereafter, was a great opportunity to share views straightforwardly on the progress report regarding the scores in the process of preparation for opening the negotiations, the pre-conditions that are part of accession process in relations with EC up to the positive recommendation, “ PM Rama said.
We had an extensive conversation on the region and developments in the region and situation in all regional countries and the June perspective given the important station in Sofia, which will host the European Summit for Western Balkans with the participation of European countries.
Chancellor Merkel and I spoke in detail about the progress report, the progress in five priorities and justice reform in particular, with special emphasis on justice reform and progress in vetting which is a crucial development and is in the focus of everyone, Chancellor Merkel in particular.
PM pledged we will do everything in our capacity. Regarding Germany, I feel more optimistic than before the visit.
Concerning the opposition, regretfully at the hearing with the European Affairs Committee, on issues that were not in the scope of report, I saw transmission in German of what is served by Albanian politics. This is the part of opposition so far. Using its few connections in international arena to export the daily mudslinging, putting obstacles in the way of this report to be read by all without prejudices.
PM said that Germany has never and will never be sceptical of Albania. France is not sceptical either.
Germany and France are two strong and supporting pillars of the EU project that embody the spirit of the founding fathers of the EU. In Germany and France there are anti-European forces in parliament. Although certain individuals within the ruling majority are against, Germany or France do not belong to the group of sceptic countries.
