TIRANA, April 20 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/ The religious communities present in Albania welcome the opening of EU accession negotiations and appeal to politics to be more accountable and follow the model of religious harmony along the path to EU accession.
In a press release, they say that religious communities in Albania offer their most heartfelt congratulations to the Albanian people on unconditional recommendation for the opening of EU accession negotiations.
The press release reads: Our journey to Europe, where we naturally belong, is now a fact and a wish of our people. The founding fathers of the Albanian state, among whom the clergy of our religious beliefs, were convinced of this affiliation. Likewise, later in time the religious leaders of Albania have never doubted the European vocation of Albanians, the vocation for a free society, where everyone exercises their rights, including the fundamental right of faith. We believe that freedom of speech and faith, family, peace, and solidarity are the founding values of our society, which aspires to join the European family.
“We, the religious communities in Albania, offer a model of harmony and brotherhood, as a service to man, society and the legitimate aspirations of our people, among which EU accession. This harmony and this model is an asset that we bring and carry with us on our journey to Europe and is a good thing for the states that to date make up this political and social organization.”
