WB, Albania’s economic growth created new jobs

TIRANA, April 11/ATA/-Albania’s economic growth hit 3.8% in 2017 supporting creation of new jobs and alleviation of poverty.

During the press conference on presentation of the 13th Economic Regional Report, it was emphasized that economic growth got improved from 3.4% in 2016 into 3.8% in 2017, even as a result of investments, high consumption and favourable environment.

But, in 2018 the economic growth is expected to slow down and fall into 3.6% because two major energy projects financed through FDI are expected to get finalized, is read in the Report.

Further on, the Report highlights that Albania’s public debt got reduced by 1.4% of the GDP and reached the level of 71% of the GDP.

The Report evaluates that the economic perspective is positive, but sustainable economic growth requires structural reforms. The service sector made the greatest contribution to opening of new jobs in 2017.

In regard to Public-Private Partnership projects, the WB’s Representative to Albania Maryam Salim highlighted the need of greater transparency on their management and the Ministry of Finance can play an important role in this respect./k.s/ /a.g/p.s./
