Tirana selected as success story by American Institute of Architecture

TIRANA, April 8 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/- Tirana has been selected by American Institute of Architecture as a success story and an example of how a city can be transformed on a tight budget.

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, was invited as a guest of honour to the AIA International Conference entitled “Youth Space and Urban Transformation,” which took place yesterday in Pristina with the participation of over 100 architects from around the world.

The conference of architects praised Tirana as one of the cities that has changed the most in the last 25 years in Europe, while its mayor in the last three years has brought a breath of transformation through green initiatives and engagement of citizens and youth organizations.

I am very happy that Tirana has been selected by the American Institute of Architecture as a success story and as an example of what you can do on a tight budget but with a lot of creativity for transformation of the city. Of course, it makes me feel proud because we have worked together to make it a reality. This is not merely the result of efforts at municipal level, it is the work of an entire city, especially when this work involves the contribution of children, adults, grandparents, cleaners, those in charge of cycling lane maintenance, those who transform urban spaces, starting from the New Bazaar to the New Boulevard, Veliaj said.

He further added that the investment plan of Tirana municipality includes revitalization of infrastructure in three new neighbourhoods created as part of the urban area, which will be named “Neighbourhood 12”, “Neighbourhood 13 “and” Neighbourhood 14. ”

Tirana is being considered as the next station to host the Conference of the American Institute of Architecture, which brings together the best architects and urbanists from all over the world.
