High cost of Nation’s Highway because of grand larceny

TIRANA, April 5/ATA/-Prime Minister Edi Rama gave on Thursday to the Parliament the reason why the government must impose a tariff on the road saying that it will serve to its maintenance.

He said that the Nation’s Highway has cost 1.3 billion USD to the Albanians and 200 million other Euros are required for its completion.

“Opposition leader argues that the 200 million collected from the circulation tax must be used to meet this purpose. But, everyone must get to know that the state pays annually from its coffer42 million USD to clear the debt of the Nation’s Highway”, said PM Rama.

Further on, he said that the then government didn’t have in its coffer the 1.3 billion Euros for building of the Nation’s Highway. The money was borrowed.

“The total payment to clear the debt of former Berisha government on the roads amounts to 110 million annually and blindness can lead us to the idea that the circulation tax must be used to pay for that.

What about the debt? The debt percentage we must pay is 37%”, said the prime minister.

Further on, head of the government said that the road had a high cost because of the grand larceny that has taken place during its building, but justice reform will bring to justice everyone who has abused.

“The reports of State Supreme Audit Institution and General Prosecution Office have made evident the big money stolen during building of this road”, said the prime minister./a.gjonaj/ /a.g/p.s./
