TIRANA, March 29 /ATA/- The Albanian Telegraphic Agency, ATA, and Bulgarian News Agency, BTA, signed on Thursday an agreement of cooperation on exchange of information from both countries.

The agreement signed Thursday in Tirana by ATA director general, Armela Krasniqi, and director general of Bulgarian News Agency, BTA, Maxim Minchev, envisages exchange of news items, pictures and video footage between the two relevant agencies.

In an interview with ATA, Minchev considers the signing of this agreement as a new opportunity to exchange daily news, especially now at this crucial time for EU accession of Albania and the Western Balkans with Bulgaria holding the EU’s Presidency.

The priority of our policy will be the Western Balkans, including Albania. Secondly, we will exchange pictures and thirdly the delegations of journalists. I think it is a step forward on the path of friendship between the two countries, he said.

BTA director general said that the agreement comes at a time when ATA has a new director general at the helm, who is a very good journalist. Apart from exchange of daily news, we need to exchange other information in areas of bilateral relations because we are friendly countries and cooperate in trade, education, sport, culture, etc.

“Media infrastructure is changing rapidly not only in the Balkans, Albania, but also in the world. I do not know what will happen tomorrow,”  Minchev said adding that social media is very active, however it is not a serious media.

“Twitter is a very good means of communication for many politicians, but I do not think  it is the right way of reporting the information.   Right now more than 80% of world information comes via news agencies, the remaining 20% via newspapers, radio and TV. The social media wants to take this territory. So we have to face, not a battle, but a long, tough process,” he said.

The agreement signed in ATA premises focuses on exchange of visits at the level of journalists, technicians, photo-reporters with the aim of sharing experiences and learning from each other.
