Property reform comes second after justice

Vlora, March 27 /ATA/ – By Harilla Koçi/- EU ambassador in Tirana , Romana Vlahutin, and Minister of Justice, Etilda Gjonaj, began a two-day fact- finding visit to Vlora with main focus on property issues and launch of reform in this area.

After meetings at the city hall, with citizens and representatives of ALUIZNI and local office of immovable property registration, Vlahutin and Gjonaj appeared at a news conference.

According to Vlahutin, property reform comes second after that in justice. This is due to the fact that property issue is a basic human right.

Private property is a basic human right to us, EU, it is non-negotiable, EU ambassador in Tirana said.
She said that this tour of fact-finding visits started from Vlora because Vlora is a very problematic region, and this issue is a commonplace occurrence in the coastal regions.
“For me, for the European Delegation team in Albania, this is a fact-finding trip, because we want to talk to everyone that in one way or another is concerned with property issue. However, we will meet with representatives of administrative institutions, police, prosecutor’s office and courts, ” Vlahutin said.

According to her, in the last 27 years property disputes have caused a total chaos, therefore ownership will be high on the agenda of reforms for Albanians after that in justice.

For her part, minister of Justice Etilda Gjonaj stressed that property issue is a priority of Albanian govt.
