Shkodra flooding, govt. to come up with an action plan on long-term solution

Tirana, March 19 /ATA/- Deputy PM , Senida Mesi, has inspected on Monday the flooded areas in Shkodra and appealed to all local and central stakeholders as well as the local population to cooperate in management of the situation.

“We have put all the relevant structures on full alert as part of flooding mitigation efforts and call on central and local actors as well as entire community in Shkodra to cooperate in mitigation of the situation there.”

Deputy PM said: “The situation is serious, moderately threatening yet not critical and the Albanian govt. is fully committed to help the local population.”

Mesi assured the locals that Albanian govt. will take the necessary measures to assess and minimise the damage caused by this natural disaster.

Right now, our primary aim is to ensure the well being of the population in these areas, mitigate the impact of flooding and rescue the livestock as much as we can.

As part of our relief aid, today we have provided the affected community with 20 tons of food for their livestock.

As mentioned in her previous inspection visits in Obot and Ana e Malit, Deputy PM Mesi said: “Once we handle the threatening situation, a task force made up of actors at central and local level will assess the situation and come up with an action plan on a long-term solution to Shkodra flooding, a common occurrence in rainy spells for this region.”
