TIRANA, March 17 /ATA/- The European Commission is set to release its ‘enlargement package’ on April 17, with EU sources saying that the Commission is expected to make recommendation to open accession negotiations with Albania and Macedonia, Italian news agency ANSA said on Saturday.
A conference on the prospect of Albania’s EU membership will be held on March 20 in Brussels with participation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, along with the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini. The conference is organized by MEP David Sassoli.
“Albania is ready to start the EU accession talks,” MEP David Sassoli said, adding: “The country has embarked on crucial rule of law, governance, economy and justice reforms over the past years.”
The meeting precedes a crucial week for the dialogue between Albania and Brussels, as Albanian negotiators set to arrive in Brussels on Monday, March 19. The 28 member states will have the last say on Albania’s bid to open the EU membership talks.
The last condition that needs to be met by Tirana is the full implementation of the justice reform, which involves the process of verifying the composition of the judicial body in the country.
