PSALM, the passion turning ethnographic symbols into gold

TIRANA, March 7 /ATA-By A.Alla/ – Albanian ethnography symbols, in combination with embroidery techniques, will be showcased in a rare art exhibition ”Psalm” at FAB arts gallery in Tirana.

The exhibition will feature unique ethnography symbols embroidered in gold and silver threads, masterfully crafted by artist Egla Memaj during a three-year long work. The artist’s personal project was curated by Najada Hamza.

“Psalm” is something special as it is not merely an exhibition but a great passion shown in a landscape with the tradition of embroidery being reflected into something contemporary, but without diminishing the splendour and history that these ethnographic symbols contain.

Ethnographic details of the traditional folk costumes of Elbasan and Berat attract most attention in this exhibition.

Artist Egla Memaj told Albanian Telegraphic Agency that her passion for ethnography developed with the Berat Museum while still a university student.

“At this moment I decided to deal with ethnography. In this exhibition, “Psalm,” which means divine songs, I have brought something contemporary, “she added.

”The exhibition features 29 embroidered works, details and fragments from Berat traditional folk costumes which contain motifs that are symbols of our country from antiquity to today,” Egla Memaj said.

The “Pslam” exhibition will be open to the public by the weekend at FAB gallery.
