TIRANA, Feb 13 /ATA/- On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, President of the Republic Ilir Meta met up Monday at “Musine Kokalari” library with representative of UN Women in Albania , Giuseppe Belsito, university teachers, scientists, high school students as well as women who have made outstanding contribution over years to science with whom he discussed the issues and achievements of women in science.

President Ilir Meta in his remarks focused on investments in the field of vocational education for women and girls appealing for full social equality in the future.

To ensure a comprehensive and high -quality development of technology science and economy, it is important to invest in education and vocational training of women and girls providing equal opportunities for social equity in the future. We are here to make this appeal because females are underrepresented either at world or national level in domains such as: engineering, geology, natural sciences which are difficult professions, yet vital for the pace of economic development and society itself.

According to President Meta, higher participation of women and girls in exact sciences would be associated with improvement of economy at national level but also with economic stability.

From an economic point of view, equal and full access for women and girls to engineering, high technology not only would be associated with improvement of economy at national level but also economic stability to more companies hiring them and dividends for women as in these professions with no pay gap between the two genders.
On the occasion President Meta gifted the library with three books by Albanian authors Kristo Frashëri, Virgjil Muçi and Marin Barleti on our National Hero n the framework of pan-national year dedicated to Gjergj Kastriotit Skënderbeu./e.caushi/sm/
