TIRANA, Feb 12 /ATA/-By Z.Tosku/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Monday launched a new School Security platform, which will see the presence of police officers in the country’s public schools in order to take care of safety of students and teachers.

The government’s newest platform will start implementation next month first in 15 high school institutions in Tirana, with at least one police officer being tasked with monitoring the daily situation and prevent any possible disturbing case concerning safety of teachers and students.

The program will be fully implemented in all public schools across Albania in the next three year.

At a meeting with students and teachers at Qemal Stafa high school in Tirana, the government head said the school security platform was based on successful models being applied in developed countries.

PM Rama underlined that many disturbing events in Albanian schools often go unreported and security guards will take care of security and also prevent possible incidents involving supplying,  distributing or selling and using of drugs in schools.

“Officers will also take care of discipline and will serve as a direct communication bridge between students, parents, teachers and the police,” Rama said.

According to PM, this will help the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Interior to collect more information about external threats to the school, harassment or narcotics delivery.

“These are phenomena occurring in all schools around the world and creation of this climate will be an added value.” he said.

The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Lindita Nikolla, said in her remarks that the new program will be a new instrument to create a healthy environment in the country’s schools.
