TIRANA, Feb 12 /ATA/ – The Speaker of the Parliament, Gramoz Ruçi said during a meeting with the European Parliament’s Delegation to the European Union-Albania Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC) on Monday that Albanian side has high expectations regarding the opening of accession talks with the EU this June.
The Assembly Speaker welcomed the new enlargement strategy “A credible enlargement perspective for and enhanced EU engagement with the Western Balkans” unveiled by the European Commission last week, saying the document represents an historic chance for the Western Balkan countries to build their path towards Europe and a fresh impetus to these countries to keep on delivering major reforms.
“We expect the accession talks with the EU to open this June and we are aware of the challenges of addressing the EU recommendations, but we remain hopeful in the efforts to deliver crucial reforms for the country,” Ruçi said.
During the meeting, the Parliament Speaker noted the progress made by the Assembly in addressing the recommendations set forth by the EC annual reports.
The SAPC Delegation expressed optimism about Albania’s chances to open negotiations with the EU, while underlining the importance of intensifying political dialogue and law enforcement as a necessity for the country’s progress.
