TIRANA, Jan 11 /ATA/- The head of Democratic Union for Integration in Macedonia , Ali Ahmeti, described the approval of law on languages’ use as a big celebration for all Albanians.
In an interview with Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA), Ahmeti said that the approval of law on the use of languages today has sealed the normative part of the Peaceful Ohrid Agreement in 2001. As of today the Albanian language is on a par with Macedonian language and this act of lawmakers in parliament of Macedonia is an occasion of celebration for us all.
“This decision has benefited Macedonia and all citizens of the country, since it closes a crucial chapter for our country,” Ahmeti said.
The head of Democratic Union for Integration went on saying: I congratulate all contributors on this common achievement and thank all supporters throughout this process.
Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia approved on Thursday with 69 votes in favor the law on the use of languages. The law stipulates that besides Macedonian language, the Albanian language will be an official language in the country as well. The law contains 25 articles and stipulates that in all bodies of central government, central institutions, public enterprises, agencies, directorates, organizations, commissions, juridical persons exercising public activities, all officials, will use the language spoken by 20 percent of Macedonia citizens.
