TIRANA, May 23/ATA/-“The increasingly high representation of women in the defense sector is an added value in the agenda of women’s and girls’ rights in Albanian society as a whole.”
Minister of Defense Olta Xhaçka made the statement at the special OSCE meeting, chaired by Albania.
2020 marks the 20th anniversary of UN Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace and Security”. “Even more political will is needed for the full implementation of the resolution, while our figures regarding the representation of women and girls in the field of defense speak best for the proper investment in the rights of women and girls in our country,” Xhaçka said.
Minister Xhaçka stated that, “18.6% of the employees in the Ministry of Defense and in the Armed Forces are women and girls. 14% of the Armed Forces are women and girls. 33% of recruitments for candidates for new officers at the end of 2019 are women and girls. “10% of leadership positions in the military and 22% in the civilian ranks are held by women.”/k.s/ /a.g/p.s./
