COVID-19/ Ministry of Health: 8 new cases, 79% of infected are recovered

TIRANA, May 23/ATA/- The Ministry of Health and Social Protection informed that within 24 hours there have been identified 8 new positive cases with COVID-19.

Rovena Daja, an expert at the Institute of Public Health, stated that, “By analyzing epidemiological data, the number of new cases in the last 24 hours, the number of deaths and the number of hospitalized people, we can say that the epidemiological situation of COVID-19 in Albania is stable. Currently, 16 patients are hospitalized in the infectious disease service and only 5 of them are in intensive care.

Fortunately, during the last 3 weeks we have no loss of life from COVID-19 and this is an indicator that shows the sustainability of this epidemic outbreak.

According to her, during the last 24 hours, 200 citizens have been tested as suspects affected by COVID-19 and 8 cases have been confirmed positive.

The geographical distribution of cases is as follows: 5 cases in Tirana, 2 in Durrës and 1 in Kruja, contacts of previous positive cases. 6 citizens are cured. Since the beginning of the epidemic, over 14,000 molecular and serological tests have been performed. Up today, 989 citizens have been positively confirmed with COVID-19. About 79% of these are cured.

There are currently 175 active people in our country with COVID-19, mainly in Tirana, Durres, Kruja, Shkodra./a.g/p.s./
