TIRANA, March 26 /ATA/ – State police officers in all prefectures have embarked on an operation to make sure that retirees and elderly people heed the stay at home orders as part of the government measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
Elderly people are not allowed to leave their homes even during the time when pedestrians are permitted on the roads between certain hours, but not permitted to walk side-by-side with other people on the streets.
Police in Tirana, Diber, Elbasan, Durres, Korçe, Kukes, Lezhe, Fier, Gjirokaster, appealed to older adults to respect the restrictive measures, informing them municipal teams will deliver food, medicines and any other basic services to their homes.
Prime Minister Edi Rama renewed his appeal to the retired people not to leave their homes as overall, older people are the most at risk from the deadly coronavirus.
“The humanitarian operation and Albania We Want platform, prefectures, the State Police, Post Service and the national emergency service are all available to help this group,” PM Rama said.
With the confirmed initial COVID-19 cases earlier this month in Albania, the government took a series of restrictive measures to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
Along with other measures, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection ordered retired people to stay at home as the most vulnerable and highly risked from the COVID-19 infection.
