TIRANA, June 7 /ATA/- Minister of Interior, Fatmir Xhafaj, hosted Thursday noon the US ambassador in Tirana, Donald Lu.
According to a press release from the ministry, the meeting focused on recent developments in the country as well as the efforts of Ministry of Interior and State Police put into fight against organized crime and illegitimacy.
Minister Xhafaj briefed ambassador on the current situation and activity of State Police as part of crackdown on crime.
The US ambassador praised the efforts and achievements of the Ministry of Interior and State Police highlighting the importance of their motivation and perseverance in the fight against organized crime.
In this context, he expressed the powerful support of the US and other partner countries for the Ministry of Interior and Minister Xhafaj in their efforts to guarantee more order and security for the citizens.
Ambassador Lu encouraged minister Xhafaj and State Police to maintain the momentum of fight against organized crime because this is what the citizens expect of State Police.
He confirmed the support and assistance of US and law-enforcement agencies in maintaining the momentum.
During the conversation, ambassador Lu showed interest to see first -hand the activity of Special Task Force established in the framework of “Force of Law” operation.
Ambassador Lu accompanied by minister Xhafaj paid a brief visit to the premises of TFS.
Directors of TFS acquainted the ambassador with the organization of this structure, activity and so far results, international cooperation and joint operations with partner countries as well as those in the pipeline.
With regard to the crackdown on criminality, ambassador Lu said that the most effective way to achieve success is establishment of structures including elite police officers, prosecutors and efficient cooperation with other law-enforcement agencies.
The ambassador encouraged the troops of TFS to push ahead with fight against organized crime.
“I am impressed by your work and the fact that the links of criminal elements with politics do not compromise you. You have our full support, of ICITAP mission and other agencies like FBI and DEA. You will soon feel proud of how Special TASK FORCE will change the future of the country,” ambassador said.
Minister Xhafaj praised the messages of ambassador Lu as support for what State Police are doing as well as an expression of partnership between Albania and the US already consolidated.
