Fight against criminal assets, Xhafaj: Coordination between law-enforcement agencies needed

TIRANA, May 28 /ATA/- Minister of Interior, Fatmir Xhafaj, stated on Monday that cooperation of law—enforcement agencies inside and outside the country is of paramount importance for fight against economic crime, corruption and money laundering.

Regarding the agreement on fight against money laundering signed in the venues of govt. building between the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Economy and ERNST & Young Gmbh, Xhafaj said: This agreement is based on three main pillars.

“The issues related to economic crime, money laundering and corruption represent the major challenge for all law enforcement agencies in the country, including State Police and other agencies under the Ministry of Interior. They constitute a tough challenge to deal with when it comes to investigation into these types of crime and bringing those responsible to justice,” Xhafaj said.

“The Force of Law operation has taught us an important lesson: No matter how strong an agency is, no matter the quality of its human resources, when the relevant agencies operating in this field fail to coordinate their actions, success is impossible,” Minter of Interior said.
