Gjonaj: Albanian govt., special focus on respect for human rights

TIRANA, April 12 /ATA/- Minister of Justice, Etilda Gjonaj, held on Thursday a fruitful meeting with President of the European Court of Human Rights, Guido Raimondi, on the sidelines of the high-level conference of Justice Ministers of CoE member countries, which is taking place in Denmark’s Copenhagen.

Minister Gjonaj assured Raimondi of Albanian govt.’s full commitment to execute the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights.

According to her, the Albanian govt. has paid special attention to regard for human rights in the course of implementing sweeping reforms for consolidation of the rule of law in the last couple of years.

Minister of Justice unveiled the positive results achieved as part of justice reform, which is crucial for countries aspiring to join the EU.

The minister highlighted the high importance that Albanian govt. attaches to Albania applications under review by ECHR, putting emphasis on the need to make sure the court decisions are effectively executed.
Gjonaj asserted the willingness of Albanian govt. to cooperate with the Court structures in finding the best remedy to property cases.
