TIRANA, April 8 /ATA/- Tirana Mayor, Erion Veliaj, wished a Happy Easter to all Orthodox believers on Sunday.
He attended the reception of the Orthodox Church where he conveyed his greetings to His Beatitude, the Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and all of Albania, Anastas Jannullatos and all other believers who celebrate today.
Mayor of Tirana said that this day should serve everybody to revive hope but also to reach out to the disadvantaged.
“Today is a very blessed day and I am hopeful that such days will make us reflect a little about the things that unite us, which are way more important than those dividing us. In a country that is caught up in endless arguments which sometimes should not necessarily be that dramatic, days like these bring positive energy into our life,” Tirana mayor said.
On this marked day for all Orthodox believers, Veliaj broke the good news for reconstruction of the St. Prokop Church at the hills of Artificial Lake.
“Along with the Archbishop we have developed the plans for reconstruction of the St. Prokop church. The church that was razed to the ground during the communist regime to build a restaurant that was later converted into a church, yet it looks like a Soviet-style restaurant. Finally, the architects of the municipality and the Orthodox church have retrieved the designs the old church. I believe that in the backdrop of the recently transformed artificial lake park, reconstruction of the church on its existing site will be the icing on the cake,” Veliaj said.
